I won’t deny it, it is pretty damn cool to have a pair of personalised jeans with my name on its tag.
I had the pleasure of experiencing the G Star Raw Atelier at the G Star HQ in Sydney recently, though not yet an instore experience, G Star is looking at the possibility of introducing it at a flagship store here. I think they totally should as their overseas ateliers are hugely successful and popular.
The jeans du jour were their signature 3301, a selvedge raw denim in a slimming dark blue with a unisex straight leg fit. From picking out the right size, to deciding how much to take up, to selecting all the trimmings, buttons, studs, labels, the experience was wonderfully lead by the denim masters.
I haven’t had a pair of raw denim jeans for a few years, so I’m once again trying to get used to the stiffness of the fabric, the blue hands as I always dry my hands on my jeans, the never sit on white couches. But hey that’s the joy of raw denim, after 6 months of use and abuse, the jeans will take on the shape of my curves and the signs of my habits and that really is the ultimate personalisation.
PS. Best to not wash your raw denim jeans. Cos you can only wash then after 6 months of wear, then you gotta wash them inside out and you add salt? Vinegar? Something to the wash… Oh it’s too complicated, I just won’t wash my jeans at all, I’m sure the hardcore denim fiends would approve…
